Community Guidelines

Your stories and media will become a part of the historical record of 9/11. By submitting content to the museum, you become part of a community of people around the world who have contributed their experience to the museum. This document is intended to provide some guidelines as to what it means to be a member of this community. Please note that your submissions to the museum will also be subject to this site's Terms of Service.



WHAT TO DO

1) Be accurate and honest. We are most interested in what you personally experienced.

2) Be appropriate. This event and subject matter demand a certain dignity. Given the intensity of the event, some strong language may be appropriate in certain stories. But consider that this site will be used by people of all ages.

3) Be respectful of fellow community members. Many stories on this site come from people who lost someone on 9/11. Please treat other users politely and respectfully.

4) Be inquisitive. This site contains unique and very personal views from around the world.


WHAT NOT TO DO

1) Don't lie. What you say matters, and we are trusting you to be honest. Don't edit videos or images in a misleading way.

2) Don't submit content that you did not personally create. Make sure you are the sole rights-holder to all stories, photos, and video.

3) Don't rant. 9/11 is a contentious subject, and we encourage people to participate in online and offline conversations devoted to 9/11's causes and ramifications. This particular site, however, is not designed to support such conversations.

4) Don't steal from this site. Don't use anything on this site for commercial purposes without the consent of the owner. If you need to contact someone regarding permissions, we will be happy to help.

5) Don't SPAM. This site is a place to learn, not to advertise. Also, do not submit things multiple times.

6) Don't troll or harass. Even if you disagree with someone, abusive or threatening behavior will not be tolerated and will result in banning.
